Introduction

Hello! My name is Sofia Saunders. I am 16 years old and am going into my senior year at Waimea High School on Kauai. A year ago, I was accepted into The Bridge: Kauai to College, a local organization that supports Kauai high school students through the process of applying to colleges. Through The Bridge, I have been given two incredible opportunities! Last year I was able to spend two weeks studying abroad in Spain, and this year they are helping me go to a summer college program, SCAD Rising Stars!!

Last year, I was a part of a Summer Global Prep Program through the American Field Service, where I stayed with a host family and was introduced to the Spanish language and culture. The program also involved service activities such as working with local children and teaching English on top of intensive Spanish language classes. 

This summer, I have been accepted into the Savannah College of Art and Design Rising Stars Program, a five week long immersive experience where I will be staying in the dorms and completing two college courses, Architecture and Drawing 101. This opportunity means the world to me, as I am currently aspiring to pursue a career in architecture and this program will help immensely. The chance to learn from renowned faculty and collaborate with fellow aspiring designers from around the world is a dream come true. I am eager to expand my knowledge, hone my skills, and explore new techniques during my time at SCAD.
