July 12

Today in class we had to ask each other questions and respond in Spanish. It was actually fun and helpful. Then around 1, we went to the supermarket to get lunch and then to “la playa”, the river/beach, to eat and wait for the bus to pick us up to go to a medieval town. We played some games with the whole group and it was so fun. When the bus finally came, it was 104 DEGREES so we were all extremely grateful for the AC.

The bus ride was actually shorter than I thought it would be. To Salamanca, it was around 3 hours, but it was only about 30 minutes which was nice. We listened to a mixture of American and Spanish music and all sang along.

When we got to the town, we went to an old monastery. We had a tour guide who spoke only in Spanish and it was a little confusing but very interesting. In the monastery, we got to see an exhibit that still had one thorn from jesus’ crown preserved. It was very interesting and super cool to see! From there, we got in the bus for a little longer and went to a small church. It was very pretty but not too interesting. THEN, we went to the back of the church where there was an entire cave of skulls!!!! It was crazy!! And a little scary. We stayed there for a bit and then had to leave and go back to our host family’s houses.
